Al Jackson Jr

Al Jackson Jr. (1935-1975) was an influential American drummer best known for his work in the soul and R&B genres. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, he became a key figure in the sound of Stax Records, contributing to the development of Southern soul music. Jackson was a member of the legendary house band, Booker T. & the MG's, and played on numerous classic recordings. Notable works include his drumming on hits like "Green Onions" by Booker T. & the MG's, "Soul Man" and "Hold On, I’m Comin’" by Sam & Dave, and "Dock of the Bay" by Otis Redding. His distinctive backbeat and innovative playing style helped define the rhythm of soul music during the 1960s. Jackson's impact on music is profound; he is often credited with influencing drummers across various genres, including rock and funk. His techniques and grooves laid the groundwork for future generations of musicians.
